Anyone who’s planning to visit the US for pleasure or business during the next couple of years should consider getting involved with the sports culture. Team games are a staple of American society, and most people take part in one way or another. Admittedly, most of them simply sit at home watching the matches on their TV screen with a few beers. That doesn’t mean they are any less enthusiastic though. Considering all that, we’ve listed some of the top sports you might like to try when you’re in the land of the free. They won’t all suit every taste, but we promise they are great fun.

Baseball

Baseball is incredibly popular in the Northern US states. While you will find pitches all over the country, it’s best to visit New York if you want to get a real feel for the game. That said; you don’t have to visit a big team’s stadium to take part. There are plenty of small places that are run by people more than willing to show you the ropes. You might play against other people or hone your skills with a new Jugs Lite-Flite Pitching Machine. Either way, you will learn how to improve your swing, and how to use more power when you strike.

Basketball

Basketball is a little different to baseball in that it involves more contact. Whether you want to take part in a game or simply shoot some hoops, you will have lots of opportunities to do so in the US. Some of the best-paid sportspeople in the world are involved in the game of basketball. For instance, global icon Michael Jordan scored an annual contract of $33 million in 1997. That made him the wealthiest sportsman in the world. Maybe you could join a team and earn a salary like that if you improve your game? Yes, we know it is unlikely. Still, you’ll have a good time. 4

Ice Hockey

Depending on where you live in the world, Ice Hockey might not be one of the most popular sports. However, it is huge in the US due to their love of danger and excitement. In fact, it is often listed as one of the toughest sports around today. You simply need to get hold of the right equipment to take part. Most ice rinks will offer a hire service for those of you who failed to plan ahead. You’ll still have a better time if you take some well-fitting skates from home though. Just try not to get into any fights. For whatever reason, people seem to get pretty aggressive when playing this game.   Now you know about some of the best sports you should try the next time you are in America, we hope you will be more inclined to take part. At the end of the day, life is about new experiences, and sports are the best way to look after your body while having a good time. If nothing on that list tickled your fancy, perhaps you should start thinking outside of the box. There are thousands of other sports to choose from. We simply highlighted the most popular.
