Most guys hate calling breakdown services when their cars stop working. Indeed, many of them will try to fix the issue themselves at the side of the road. However, lots more people simply don’t know enough to deal with the fault singlehandedly. With that in mind, we wanted to make sure none of you look silly today. We’re going to highlight some of the jobs every guy can sort himself. If you don’t know how to perform the simple tasks listed on this page, now is the time to start your research. Men are supposed to be good with their hands. Don’t call a breakdown service unless you have truly broken down. Otherwise, it’s just a waste of time.

  • Flat tires

Everyone should know how to change the tires on their vehicle. You should also have all the equipment you require in the trunk. Presuming you don’t keep a spare tire in there at the moment, you need to get one as soon as possible. Simply use the jack to lift your car in the appropriate position. You can then use a wrench to loosen the nuts. In some instances, they might be very tight. So, it makes sense to invest in a hydraulic torque wrench and keep it in your car. That way, you won’t have to spend hours bouncing on the tool at the side of the road. Often, nuts become very stubborn if they haven’t been adjusted for a while.
  • No fuel

Calling a breakdown service when you run out of fuel is terribly embarrassing. That is why most people will refrain from contacting the professionals and opt to call a friend. Either way, you’re going to seem less than intelligent if you didn’t prepare for that eventuality. Do yourself a favor and keep at least $5 worth of fuel in your trunk. Just make sure you store it in a plastic can that you can buy from most gas stations. The last thing you need is for the fuel to leak out and make your car flammable.
  • Flat battery

You can’t solve a flat battery without the assistance of another motorist. However, that doesn’t mean you need to call the professionals. You just need to keep some jump leads in your trunk. Everyone should have them in their cars for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they will help to get your engine started when the worst occurs. Secondly, you will have the tools needed to assist other motorists. Whenever you see someone with a broken down vehicle at the side of the road, you should always offer to help. That is, presuming you don’t want to experience bad karma. Make sure you learn how to solve all those common issues as soon as possible. You are a man, and men know how to deal with machines. Only call breakdown services when the issue requires specialist attention. If nothing else, learning to solve problems like that yourself will help you to save a lot of money. Just try to keep your owner’s manual in the glove box so you can consult it if you’re unsure about anything. 3
